Visiting the Mental Health Commissioner and his team is always a wonderful experience.
Having them provide such a beautiful home for the Quilt
and support for our programs is so much appreciated.

In recognition of R U OK? Day today, we welcomed representatives from community group Blue Phoenix for morning tea and a viewing of the Sunflower Quilt in its new home in our office in Brisbane 🌻💛
Created over more than 12 months, the Sunflower Quilt features embroidered squares made by people across South East Queensland and assembled by friends of the Blue Phoenix group. The project aimed to contribute to community discussion about mental health challenges and reduce experiences of stigma and was inspired by the way sunflowers always turn to the light, or instead to each other when the sun is not shining.
We enjoyed catching up and chatting more about Blue Phoenix’s new Pebble Project, launching in Queensland Mental Health Week coming up from 7 October 💜💚

Brisbane Square Library is in the Brisbane CBD and it is to be the first site to hang the Sunflower Quilt.

The library is on the corner of Adelaide and George Streets, Brisbane.

This will the first of many sites, as the quilt goes on its journey to promote discussion at the grass roots level around thinking differently about mental health issues.

Blue Phoenix is passionate about de-stigmatising mental health issues and members are focussing their attention on the community level.

The quilt will be hung later in the afternoon of its launch at Carina Community Centre on 9th October which is the start of Queensland Mental Health Week.

It will be on display there for the remainder of October, which is, then, national Mental Health Month.

For the month of November, it will be showcased at the Chermside Library.

Further Library appearances are currently being negotiated.

We hope you get a chance to visit.
